TITLE: The Psychological Experience of Collecting

This is a psychological study. The purpose of the study is to better understand the psychological experience of collecting. If you choose to participate, you will be asked to fill out some demographic questions, and then complete three questionnaires – one about possible psychological issues you may or may not be experiencing, one about your thoughts and behaviors regarding saving objects, and finally one about your experience with the loss of a loved one. The entire study should take approximately 75 minutes to complete.

Your identity as a participant in this research study will be kept confidential in any publication of the results of this study. All data collected via this online study will not be stored on the server; it will be sent via unencrypted email to the principal investigator. The information obtained during this research (research records) will be kept confidential to the extent permitted by law. However, this research record may be reviewed by individuals who are authorized to monitor or audit the research, or the Institutional Review Board (the committee that oversees all research in human subjects at Adelphi University) if required by applicable laws or regulations.

There is minimal risk involved with participation in this study. We hope that this study can help us to better understand people’s psychological experiences. There will be no direct compensation for participating in this study. This study is confidential as no identifying information will be collected from you. However, although the risk is small, no guarantee can be made regarding the interception of data sent via the Internet by any third parties. Participation is voluntary. Should you decide not to participate, you will not be penalized in any way. You are free to discontinue your participation at any time, and may do so by simply closing your browser. By completing this study, you are agreeing to participate in the research.
